Tony Abbott: A Man With No Shame Part III

November 18th 2006 23:01
Hi there,

Okay. Having laboured the point somewhat already, you must be wondering where we're going with all this. Why does Tony Abbott's escapades warrant a trilogy? Is this just some sort of vindictive anti-Liberal vendetta? No it is not. This is a man who has consistently bumbled his way through several terms in Government and as it happens, this is symptomatic of the state of affairs in Canberra. We have a ruling elite, populated with people born into privilege, determined to create an Australia that seems to ignore the consistent lies, deception, scaremongering and incompetence of our elected representatives. If you haven't noticed, things just got progressively worse and worse, cynically seeing how much they could get away with

When you have Kevin Rudd celebrating the likes of Malcolm Fraser (the man largely resposible for the Dismissal of the Whitlam government in 1975), Bob Menzies and B.A. Santamaria for being compassionate, socially conscious conservatives, you have to wonder how far right the Right has actually become. You could probably add John Hewson to that list of names too. Notably, Fraser and Hewson have been very open, ardent critics of this current Liberal Government. John Howard, with his rather frightening collection of sycophants and lackeys, has not just shifted the goalposts, but moved to a different playing field altogether. This is no exaggeration, it is very scary.

You just have to look at the lack of action regarding the Kyoto Protocol to see that this Government would much rather allow a damaging level of greenhouse gas emissions and protect the corporate polluters than actually go with the international flow of sympathy for and seriousness of the treaty. Where Abbott sees himself as a paragon of Catholicism, Rudd steps in and dams the stream: If you were so keenly a believer Mr. Abbott, why isn't your party doing something to protect God's Creation? We've been here before surely. Not to mention waging unjust war (not sanctioned by God last time I looked) or even spending a fortune in taxpayer's money on Government propaganda hyping the terrorist threat.

This Government can not continue see the masses as the enemy, rather than the people they actually serve. Furthermore, we can't ignore that it has taken ten long, brutal years for the electorate to begin to wake up. Two-thousand and seven is really the last shot we have of restoring this country's dignity. Another term in office and you will see the eventual wholesale gutting of everything dear to us, from enriching and selling Uranium to such dubious nations as India and Indonesia, mining nature to within an inch of our lives or the decimation of worker's rights to benefit employers. This is economic rationalism turned into a rod of evil, whipping us into submission. The time is now. Suddenly you realise, you do have power.

Cheers

Michael.
