Tony Abbott: A Man With No Shame Part I
November 11th 2006 05:59
Howdy,
Tony Abbott is about as clumsy, gormless and useless as a poltician can get. He is a walking contradiction of ideals and idiocy competing against one another and for some unknown reason, The Sydney Morning Herald give him column inches to prattle on about whatever takes his fancy. In last Wednesday's edition (November 8, 2006) Abbott took on Kevin Rudd, chastising him for his supposed circumlocution regarding "religious semantics" and Rudd's supposed one-man crusade to spiritualise the Labor Party. Hmmm. This is going to be fun.
Mr. Abbott takes Rudd to task on two main issues. Firstly, that Rudd unfairly took aim at Hillsong, the yuppie church rife with questionable theology and the phenomenon of their joining the ranks of the NSW Liberal Party. If you've been to Hillsong and I have, at the invitation of a friend of mine who is a shining beacon of Christendom amidst a morass of materialistic ordure espoused by their 'preachers', you'll notice that their monies are going into some interesting places. It's like U2's Zoo TV on a smaller scale. I have never seen so many beautiful, well-dressed people at a church service anywhere in my life. It IS Right-wing, it is greedy and it is, at its heart, anti-Christ. Read the Beatitudes; "Blessed are the POOR"! Prosperity Doctrine is EVIL. You don't need to underline it.
I've visited many churches down the years, of as many denominations as you could name and never have I been more horrified at the gaping hole in the heart of this slick and shallow lie factory called Hillsong. So Rudd questioned its integrity. Good. It has none. Yet Abbott wants to defend the new Liberal heartland. In the same week as this article surfaced, he made himself look like a bumbling ass, once more. Bear in mind this is the same fool who fed his cock and bull story about his long lost illegitimate son (who wasn't his long lost illegitimate son) to The Bulletin to score brownie points with the electorate. Who's the moron who keeps tying his own noose? It's Tony Abbott.
The second issue was a response to Rudd declaiming the economic rationalism of the Liberals, or "market fundamentalists" to use his phrase. Rudd's spot on. The Federal Liberal Government are driven by the market, they are slaves to the mighty dollar and I'll be damned if that's not contrary to the whole spirit of Christianity. The Liberal Party are happily hatcheting the working class, only a Right-wing voter would dare dispute that. What don't you get Abbott? IR reform is your party raping the workers. End of story. It gets better though. Abbott, the Federal Minister for Health, stated that a new cancer vaccine wouldn't be made available for a reduced price because it wasn't "cost effective". He said it, I heard it, it was insane. Abbott, from his own face, just proved that in his portfolio, it's the drug companies he wants to protect. Rudd was, therefore, right.
Don't mention the abortion pill RU-486 either. I won't get into any detail about my opinion on abortion, suffice to say I disagree with surgical abortion (contraception and abstinence are preferred), but I am not a woman, it's not my choice, it's not my body. It never will be. Parenting and pregnancy are two of the deepest, most burdensome and potentially rewarding experiences a woman will ever have. None of these decisions should ever be taken lightly, but I have two friends who have both had abortions and they both regretted it. However, it's women who want access to this drug and not men, so Abbott, claiming to be a strict Catholic is adamant it won't be a reality on his clock any time soon.
As we know though, things in Abbottville are a little bit skewed. In a bit of a strange parade, Abbott was another Government figure to offer a very liberal (note the small 'l') defence of Alan Jones' sexuality, that has been offered up for public scrutiny with the recent Chris Masters biography. So if Tony Abbott is out there defending Jones' sexuality and claiming to be a strong Catholic, it puts him at odds with the Vatican's teaching about homosexuality. You don't find Pope Benedict wearing a rainbow sash at Easter mass. I don't know whether Mr. Abbott keeps up with the Pope's sermons, but he gets on the telly a bit, he should be able to catch him. People should never be defined by who they have sex with, but it seems a little hypocritical that Mr. Abbott has one hand on his crucifix and the other in Alan Jones' pocket. Take that anyway you like.
Cheers
Michael.
